Welcome to my backyard weather page. We are
located in Dandridge, Tennessee (about 35 miles east of Knoxville). Our rural home
is located in a miniature valley, so the temperatures are a bit lower than you might see
in the official Morristown or Knoxville weather reports.
The weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro 2 Wireless which
was just added on July 17, 2005. This has replaced a Davis Vantage Pro with a
retrofitted "extreme conditions" Integrated Sensor Suite (I.S.S.)
Our backyard is really the place to
watch birds, but cabling would present a slight problem. The webcam software is
ImageSalsa Weather edition. During hummingbird season (roughly starting in
mid-April) we will have a Garden Treasures 6 station feeder. During the rest of the
year we use a National Geographics Woodland Cage feeder filled with black oil sunflower
seeds.
We are *very* amateur birders.
More of the back porch (or sunporch) variety. We recently purchased an Eagle Optics
Raven Spotting Scope. It is certainly not the top of the line, but it has received
good reviews.
We have the ordinary variety of East
Tennessee birds and are pleasantly surprised when we see new or rare species stop by our
many backyard feeders.
We have also converted an acre of our
yard into a "wildlife sanctuary" which has the added benefit of cutting down on
the mowing I have to do. :)
